Vietri sul Mare Amalfi Coast

It is located opposite the entrance to the northern city of Salerno, is the first "gem" that comes after Salerno along the way to the Amalfi Coast. Vietri on the sea is extended collinarmente to ridosso of the coast, and to the slopes of it is extended the zone of Navy of Vietri, district that directly overlooks the sea. In past centuries the economic activities of the inhabitants were based on industry (especially ceramics), handicrafts and maritime trade. In recent decades much of the population engaged in industry and in the private sector and public, has found in the municipalities adjacent the job center, on the place predominates the commerce and the activities tied to the tourism, besides the ceramic tradition. Thanks to its characteristics and its history Vietri is considered one of the centers of artistic production and traditional ceramics, for which a recent national law provides for the creation of a brand that protects the production and image.

The center of town, dominated by San Liberatore mountain, the church of St. John the Baptist is the most important monument of the seventeenth century, surmounted of the elegant majolica dome. A beach, with two small stacks calls "Two Brothers". The legend tells that one day by the sea the two brothers, while they guarded their flock of sheep near 'the beach of Vietri,remained enchanted by the beauty of a girl that ahead to they swimming and there was lull by the waves, but suddenly the sea was agitated and the two brothers with ardor and also the sheep , was thrown in order to save the girl but all drowned. The king of the sea could not save the two brothers,the sheeps and the girl, but impressed by more generosity,so that , came remembered for their courage and their kindness,they transformed them into two rocks that since then have all called the two brothers and the smalls rock are still called the sheep.
