Picturesque fishing village on the Amalfi Coast, located at the foot of Mount Cetara Falerio.
Cetara has always been a fishing village, not by chance that the name derives from the Latin Cetaria, trap,
or Cetara, sellers of big fish.
Still, it could be traced back to the source term citrus, or lemon, for centuries important crop
not only at home but throughout the Amalfi Coast.
The current economic activities are fishing, conservation of tuna and anchovies
(Famous is the "anchovies").
The typical gastronomy of Cetara is essentially based on fish (tuna and sardines in particular).
Typical of the country are casting for the spaghetti with anchovies, which is the proceeds from the fermentation of anchovy
made marinated in jars: the ancient "garum"of the Romans. Another characteristic dish is called "cuòppo"
namely mixed bag of fried anchovies and salted squid.
Cetara rather have a position offset from the Amalfi Coast and is about 6 km from Vietri sul Mare,
10km to 11km from separating from Maiori and Minori.
Atrani is located at less than 15Km and Amalfi, the town which gives its name to the Amalfi Coast,
is about 16Km. Ravello, the city of music, is about 19km, about 25km Praiano
and Positano is about 33km from Cetara. Conca dei Marini is 20Km, Agerola is 31km, Scala is 20Km from Cetara and
Tramonti is 18Km.
