Amalfi is a town in the province of Salerno .
His name gives the name to its section on which it stands, the Amalfitan Coast, which since 1997 has been declared the 'UNESCO World Heritage. Amalfi is a continuous call for tourists as a place of eternal spring. The climate is Mediterranean, with mild winters and rainy summers and moderately warm, sunny and hardly ever sultry. The origin of the city and the name is uncertain but the Amalfi name derives sure from the Latin, from Melfi, a city of Lucania, whose inhabitants arrived on the coast, founding the city and the Roman Gens Amarfia.

the origins of the borough are a lot of ancient and its foundation go back the period of Roman domination. The most famous monumet of Amalfi is sure the Cathedral. The Cathedral of Amalfi is a building formed by two basilicas turns and communicating, then a "double-cathedral", which makes the amalfitan church more similar to an Arabic mosque that a Christian church. During its millennial history, Amalfi was one of the four Maritime Republics that contending the control of Mediterranean sea. Traditionally, every year a crew of amalfitan sailors take part at Race of the Maritime Republics challenge arms of the three homologous cities.

The amalfitan, thanks to the exchanges with the Arabic world, just knew the paper, start manufacturing. The Paper Museum of Amalfi is a former paper mill transformed in museum so as want the owner of the paper mill and belonging a famous family for the production and manufacture of the paper of Amalfi. The museum is located inside the city and host equipment and machinery, naturally restored and working, used for the production handmade paper. Inside paper's museum you can admire also a photographic show, prints documentary and a library containing books that illustrate the methods of realization paper. The guided tour, lasting 10-15 minutes, also includes the possibility to see the making of Amalfi's paper.

Amalfi receives in the best way many tourists that come to visit thanks to the many historic and famous hotels (many of which are former convents), luxury accomodations,holiday accomodations and bed & breakfast,receptive structures where you can book your holidays that you will spend on the beach, monuments and eating amalfitan speciality.
